The skeleton of this painting was laid down with a brush attached to a gnarly tree limb, used as an extension of the artists’ arm. The structure spontaneously mirrored the pattern of a tree’s gesture. Following the tree-like presence with supporting color notes, I began to think of the paintings surface as a rhythm, or melody created in partnership with the tree who helped shape it.
